EIA Data Workshop – Thurs June 15

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent and impartial energy information. CELI fellow Cara Marcy will lead a workshop on how to best utilize the many data sets provided by the EIA, including data products covering energy production, stocks, demand, imports, exports, and prices.

April 5: Clean Energy in India – A conversation with ReNew Power

Last year CELI hosted Sumant Sinha, the CEO of ReNew Power, where CELI’s own Anand Gupta works in Delhi. In that time the company has grown from $1 billion in market cap to $2 billion. It is today India’s largest clean energy company – some CELI charm! We are pleased to welcome Sumant and Anand back to DC, and are looking forward to learning more from Sumant about his experience and clean energy in India.

March 30: Coal’s Changing Role in the US Economy Part 2: Clean Energy Solutions

In a series entitled “Coal’s Changing Role in the US Economy,” the Clean Energy Leadership Institute is taking an in-depth look at how the culture and politics surrounding coal must shape the conversation on how we power our nation going forward, and how cultural sensitivity is necessary to productively engage coal communities – both politically and economically – as the nation moves toward a lower carbon economy.

The CELI Fellowship is a highly selective education and leadership training program for young professionals who exhibit strong leadership potential and are committed to advancing the clean energy economy. DC Applications are due Sunday, February 15, and SF Applications are due Saturday, February 4, at 11:59pm.

Jan 13: Catalyzing Clean Energy Careers Afternoon Event

On Friday, January 13, 2017, the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) will host the first-ever Clean Energy Career Fair & Conference in partnership with the George Washington University Solar Institute. This half-day event will provide opportunities for leading clean energy companies and organizations to connect with the best and the brightest young professionals in the DC region.

Our competitive Fellowship Program runs twice per year with fellows from across the private and public sectors, and we now have a rapidly growing network of professionals.
Over 150 fellows have gone through our program and now we are actively exploring launching a chapter in San Francisco. Join CELI co-founders, fellows, and colleagues from Berkeley and Stanford to discuss opportunities to help bring this unique network to the Bay Area.

Come hear from our very own CELI Fellows who attended COP-21 in Paris last month! What was it like when the agreement was signed? How was the energy (pun intended!)? About what do they feel the most positive — or discouraged?? CELI Fellows Max Lander (Spring ’15), Jesse Vogel (Spring ’15), Zoe Berkery (Fall ’14), and Narayan Subramanian (Fall ’14) will share their experience at COP, and take questions from the rest of us.


An Evening with Peter Fox-Penner

Please join the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) and the Johns Hopkins Energy Policy and Climate Program for an evening with Dr. Peter Fox-Penner, author of Smart Power: Climate Change, the Smart Grid, and the Future of Electric Utilities and Principal of The Brattle Group. Dr. Peter Fox-Penner will discuss the challenges facing the electric utility industry and his vision for a sustainable power industry for the 21st century – an industry that operates a clean, smart system and places energy efficiency and customer empowerment at the core of its new mission. His remarks will be followed by Q&A and questions from the audience will be incorporated.


Discussion on Challenges & Opportunities for Offshore Wind

The U.S. Department of Energy has estimated that offshore wind could provide at least 7% of our domestic energy demand by 2050. Europe already has a full-fledged offshore wind industry with over 8 GW of installed capacity and much more in the pipeline, but development in the United States has been delayed by high costs, an underdeveloped supply chain, and local and political opposition. Join the Clean Energy Leadership Institute, in conjunction with panelists from the U.S. Department of the Interior, EDF Renewable Energy, and the American Wind Energy Association, for a discussion of the potential benefits of and challenges facing offshore wind.

Realizing a Revolution: Empowering Women in Clean Energy: A #NationWISE event

Join Women in Solar Energy (WISE) and the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) for an interactive speaker panel and networking event. Events like ours will be happening around the country in 15 other cities as part of #NationWISE, a multi-city round table that aims to elevate the discussion on women in the clean energy workforce. Julia Hamm, CEO and President of the Solar Electric Power Association, will moderate a panel discussion of successful women in the clean energy industry, including:

CELI Presents Utility 2.0: The Utility of the Future

Utility 2.0 will be a panel of CELI alumni with expertise in various aspects of the electric utility industry. The panel will be moderated by Devin Hartman, an Energy Industry Analyst at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and will provide an overview of the challenges facing the current utility and discuss the debates surrounding the implementation, impact, and plausibility of the “Utility of the Future.”
